'We won’t go back’ is an artistic exploration of the fundamental rights related to bodily

autonomy, emphasizing the power and control individuals should inherently possess over their own bodies. At its core, the project seeks to convey a powerful message that absolute autonomy is a basic right for every living person and animal. This compelling piece brings together a dynamic portrayal of 43 young female rhesus macaques in a symbolic act of liberation. The artwork is rooted in a narrative of resilience and empowerment, as it draws inspiration from a real-life escape of these primates from the Alpha Genesis research laboratory in Yemassee, South Carolina. This poignant event, occurring the day after a momentous election, serves as a powerful metaphor for the assertion of autonomy and the audacious quest for freedom.
Set against the evocative backdrop of the Statue of Liberty, the primates bear witness, layering a historical symbol of freedom and hope into its narrative.
.Crafted with meticulous attention, the collage doesn't just tell a story; it reinforces a profound statement about the rights of all creatures to have control over their own bodies. The use of collage as a medium adds layers of meaning and texture, inviting the viewer to explore the complexities of captivity and freedom. The vibrant assembly of elements within the artwork encourages engagement and reflection on the symbiotic relationship between vulnerability and strength. "We Won’t Go Back" stands not only as a work of art but as a manifesto advocating for the inherent rights and dignity of every living being.
